As a designer, I am constantly in need of stock photos for client projects. Although there are a lot of premium stock photos sites available, sometimes you just need a quick search for smaller projects. Here's a list of stock photo sites I use that offer free photos.

First one in my list is stock.xchng. This is my very first go-to site when I first started. It has a bunch of good high resolution stock photos/textures to download.
Created by Italian designer and photographer Daniel Nanescu, SplitShire is another good site that offers stock photos for both personal and commercial use.
Little Visuals offers various types of stock photos from nature to abstract. You can download zip files in bundles or you can subscribe and wait for 7 hi-res files sent to your email every 7 days.
